Who is Suzanne Valadon?

Passionate, creative Suzanne Valadon was a model with whom Renoir was reputed to have been romantically involved.

The Umbrellas depicts a bustling street in Paris as people rush to escape a rain shower that seems to be just staring. The main figure in the foreground is a Suzanne Valadon who is carrying what appears to be a basket or perhaps a hatbox. She is looking straight at the viewer as if resigned to her fate and the oncoming rain.
