Picasso and Olga Stepanovna Khokhlova

Olga Khokhlova was a Russian ballet dancer. Picasso met her in Rome during his worked on the costumes and décor for the Ballets Russes production of parade. Picasso and Olga were married on July 12, 1918, at the Russian church in Paris.

Picasso and Olga lived an enviable life. They are wealthy he was famous and they mingled with high society, while the value of his paintings continued to increase.

Picasso painted Olga over and over and with each painting, portrayed her in different style. He painted Olga in an Armchair in 1917, Woman reading in 1920.

On February 4, 1921, Olga gave birth to a boy, Paolo, Picasso proudly marked the birth of their child with painting called Mother and Child.

Olga separated from Picasso in 1935 after the start of his affair with Marie Theresa Walter and the birth of Maya, Walter’s daughter by Picasso. At the end of her life, Olga had a stroke and her legs were paralyzed.

Olga lived in the south of France with his son, remaining married to Picasso until his death from cancer in Cannes 1955.
