French painter of Toulouse-Lautrec

French painter and lithographer, he was born in Albi, France to an aristocratic family. Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa (24 November 1864 – 9 September 1901) also known as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s painting and prints are linked in spirit and draughtsmanship to the work of artist such as Duamier and Goya.

Lautrec’s acute rendering of gesture and movement, combined with the fluent vigor with which he disposed of line and color ensures him a place among great 19th-centiry graphic artist.

Having broken both his legs at the age of 12, Toulouse-Lautrec remained crippled for the rest of his life. His legs were disproportionately short and e was only four and a half feet tall. Deprived of participation in typical aristocratic –physical pursuit such as hunting and horse-riding, Toulouse-Lautrec overcompensated by passionately studying art.

From 1882, he studied in Paris under Leon Joseph Florentine Bonnat and Fernand Cormon and in 1884 settled at Montmartre, whre he painted and drew both pictures and on posters, the cabaret performers, prostitutes, barmaid, clowns and actors representing the society there.
